A character for my children’s fiction is a fashion doll, and as a joke, I gave her a dog that really poops. She giggles and cleans up the plastic things that fall behind her dog. Another character rolls her eyes and thinks, some things are better left to the imagination!

Taking a break and doing a bit of writer research, I searched on the name of a popular fashion doll to see if she had a dog. She does, and even, at one point, had a dog that pooped! What I wouldn’t give to own that vintage toy. But it was recalled, because, get this: toy poop is a choking hazard!

Kids! Don’t eat that!

But it’s okay if you’re just writing about it, so my fashion doll still has her poopy dog, and none of the other characters tries to taste it.

My book is done, and I’ve uploaded it as a Christmas ebook on Amazon. I did my research on keyword phrases, adding “Best Christmas book for children 2020” to my list. Then, when I tested to see if my book would appear, what to my wondering eyes did appear? The books that beat my book in the list: all books about farting! Santa farting, reindeers farting, snowmen farting, elves farting. Unless Mrs. Claus wants to get into the act (note to self: opportunity), they’ve pretty much got it covered, everyone is farting this year. There’s even a farting animals coloring book. I’m a little confused and concerned, why would someone want to color farting animals? It’s just pictures of animals with clouds coming out of their butts. You can probably draw that yourself.

And forget about the cautionary tale of the choking hazard poop toy. Search on the most popular toys this year, and you’ll find that poop toys are hot! Flamingos, dogs, even poop putty.

I think what would be satisfying is a stress toy. I don’t care what it looks like but I’ll call it 2020, and I can squeeze the poop out of it. And then take it and all its mess to the garbage.

Happy New Year!
